Celebrated annually on the first Saturday of July , the observance will take place on 4 July 2026, bringing together cooperative movements, governments and partners across the globe. The observance aims to raise awareness of the contributions of cooperatives to sustainable development and to strengthen collaboration between the United Nations and the international cooperative movement . The official theme for the year was " Cooperatives for a peaceful world ", which highlighted the vital role cooperative enterprises play in advancing social justice, community resilience, and economic inclusion .The theme, selected by the International Cooperative Alliance in coordination with the International Labour Organization , emphasized how shared ownership and democratic principles act as bridge-builders to foster dialogue and trust.
